What to see in Koh Samui

Sunset At Koh Samui

Sunset At Koh Samui

Koh Samui is a beautiful island in the Surat Thani province of Thailand. It has a few main areas, the party side consists of Lamai beach and Chaweng beach, but if you want a quieter time, we suggest staying on the west side of the island at Lipa Noi beach.

It is the perfect size to fully explore in one day by moped, which is a very cheap way to get around the island. Starting from Lipa Noi, we hired a moped and headed south. We suggest keeping as close to the coast as possible for the best views and the best opportunities for finding hidden beaches.

Towards the South East corner of the island you will find the Grandpa and Grandma rocks. These are a popular tourist attraction in Koh Samui and a nice spot to take a few pictures. Keep heading anticlockwise around the island until you reach Lamai beach. Here you can take a dip in the crystal clear waters and relax on the beach for an hour or so.

Next stop is Chaweng, but for great views make sure you find the ‘border’ between Lamai and Chaweng as there is a great viewing platform. At Chaweng, you can grab some lunch and spend more time on the beach, or have a walk around to find out what parties are on that night.

There is a stop on the North West part of the island called the big Buddha. Another popular tourist stop and one worth taking a look at. Finally, you should work your way back around to the west side of the island for a perfect sunset to end your day.

Day trip from Koh Samui to Angthong Park

Angthong National Park, Koh Samui

Angthong National Park, Koh Samui

If you are planning a trip to the Thai Islands you must add a visit to Angthong National Park to your Thailand bucket list. We have visited many national parks around the country and no doubt this is one of the most beautiful and also great fun to visit. The Marine Park is located at the Gulf of Thailand close to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao. It’s an archipelago of 42 untouched islands with pristine beaches, crystal clear water and breathtaking views.

The best way to visit the park is going on a day trip, you can also rent tents and stay overnight on one the islands, but that requires a lot of planning and booking in advance at the park visitor center. Most of the tours start at 8 or 9 am and finish at 4 or 5 pm, the itinerary includes a boat ride to the national park, a visit to the main islands where you can hike to the top of the mountains for an outstanding view and also see the blue lagoon. Some tours also offer stops for snorkeling or kayaking between islands.

Koh Samui is the best place to start your trip to Angthong National Park, there you will find many tourist agencies selling tours to the park, you can choose the best one by the price, reviews or the activities included in the package. Don’t forget to pack a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and your underwater camera, beautiful scenery and adventure are guaranteed.
